My new coupler mount in place using the original (coupler mount) screws. I used double backed foam tape to add a little additional support to the installation and to provide a slight amount of pressure against the mounting screws to aid in locking the screws against the new mount. The coupler I use is the Kadee 1789, which is a straight shank #1 scale coupler in a 'G' scale Draft Gearbox.

This Image shows how the Draft Gearbox is set in the pilot. The rectangular raised area provided the proper guide for the opening. The cut-out required no measuring, well, after I made the first conversion, that is.

Here are a pair of Geeps in which you can see the cut-out and Draft Gearbox relationship a little better as well as the close proximity of the pilot step to the Kadee 'Air Hose'.
This style coupler and the shorter mount provides a much stronger coupler and is less prone to uncoupling problems I have experienced using the goose-neck installation of the 'recommended' Kadee coupler.
