The section here is approximately 60' long. The length of the three parallel tracks is 40' each. The track is code 332 Aristo brass. I expected there to be some heat expansion, but never expected it to be this bad. Expansion joints will have to be placed about every 10 feet. The temperature on the day the center photo was taken was in the mid 90s. We get temps over 115 for extended periods July through August so it can only get worse. Adding to the problem here is the long straight sections that make it so obvious.
The track shown in the photos is located in the southern most side of my yard, the wall that is parallel to it, provides shade in the winter. We had a week of 90-degree temperatures at the beginning of February this year. I have been testing two different methods of expansion joints but left one track untouched. I discovered that even at 90 degrees, the track did not expand; the only logical conclusion is that direct sunlight is more of a factor than ambient air temperature.
